Water feature cleaning service

Here at Tranquilityscapes based in Nassau County, Long Island, NY we are always getting calls and questions about how to clean your pond. Since we, at Tranquilityscapes, are building ecosystem ponds and not a traditional koi pond which requires weekly maintenance, we must drain and clean our ponds out every year or two, it’s equivalent to vacuuming a swimming pool when you open it for the season. An ecosystem pond is a natural extension of your landscape compared to a formal pond which looks man made as its main purpose is to raise champion-grade koi. With an ecosystem pond, the liner is covered with gravel and rocks to hide all man-made products, even the skimmer and biological filter. The goal of our pond cleaning is to remove around 90% of the organic debris accumulated over the previous year, but not to sterilize the pond where it unbalances the ecosystem. Our clean out consists of removing your fish safely to a temporary holding tank with a chloramine detoxifier and a temporary ammonia neutralizer while we drain and power wash and remove most of the organic debris in the pond. We also clean the filter mats in the skimmer and biological filter, lubricate the pump and look over the whole system, as well as making sure all lights & aerators are in working condition to make sure you have a zero headache season.

Tired of cleaning out those old leaves from last year? Let us take care of it for you

Whether you live in Nassau County or Suffolk County Long Island, the key to a low maintenance water garden is to keep your new ecosystem pond in balance. Regardless of what type of water feature you own, as long as you live on Long Island, Tranquilityscapes will help you maintain it so you can stay hands off and just enjoy your water garden. Decomposing leaves and other debris can collect on the bottom of the pond, releasing ammonia, nitrates, tannins into the water. When these level get too high they become toxic and fatal to your dear fish. Dirty water also spoils the look of your pond. The water should be crystal clear so you can see right to the bottom as well as your aquatic plants should be nicely pruned. There’s a whole lot of conflicting information out there about the do’s and don’ts of water gardening, so let us take care of it. The whole point of installing your water feature was to reduce the stress in your life, not add to it.
